The developers have divided Earth2’s development plan into 3 phases.
In phase 1, which we are currently in, Earth2 functions mainly as a marketplace for buying and selling land. The interface is akin to Google Maps but divided into trillions of tiles that can be traded for real money
Phase 2 is all about ressources. There will be new ressource system, including the introduction of Essence – basic energy units that each land produces. It will also be possible to erect your own buildings on the tiles you own using said ressources. Ressources can be harvested and traded for money. Phase 2 is currently planned for sometime in the first half of 2021.
In phase 3, Earth2 will no longer be visualised as just a 2d map, but rather a 3d virtual world. Here’s a terrain video showing you, what to expect. A teleportation system will allow you to traverse the world.
Existing buildings in the real world will not be present in the 3d virtual world. Instead you will see a natural landscape with building opportunities.
At some point you will have your own highly customisable avatar. The vision is for people to want to meet each other, communicate, to build communities, to experience this new world together. The developers dream of players being able to work together and design joint strategies in order to give each other access to higher technologies and access higher levels of the Earth 2 experience:
Now, here’s where things really get crazy. In Phase 3, the developers are planning to merge our real world with Earth2 through augmented reality, allowing you to experience the virtual world through goggles or lenses, as you walk around in the real world.
